jQuery Mobile Quick Start and new jQuery class

06-29-2011 5,242 views Mobile, jQuery 8 Comments

I've been working on a quick start for jQuery Mobile for some time now. The draft has been done but waiting for some final edits. Unfortunately, the jQuery Mobile team decided they could still make improvements (what's wrong with those jerks!) so my quick start needs both some formatting updates and some changes to reflect recent changes. With that being said, I thought it might be useful to share the current version (minus most formatting) as it may be helpful to folks. Only a few things will change between now and final release, and I do think it is a good, and simple, introduction to the technology. But that's me - you guys let me know.

Quick Start to jQuery Mobile

The real release will have a zip of files, but you should be able to cut and paste. I recommend using Dreamweaver CS 5.5 for your editing as it has built in jQuery Mobile support.

On a related note, community member John Farrar has released an online jQuery course: jQuery Fundamentals This includes 7 lessons and nearly 40 different videos for a low price of $29.95. That's less than a typical night out at the movies!

Awesome info! Just a couple of extra pound signs after #page2 in two lines but so easy to understand! Thanks!

I did a 'save as' from their blog editor and it definitely had some weird chars in it. Can you be a bit more precise though? I found one bad char I didn't fix - but I don't think I see what you mean here.

I enjoyed reading that, very clear examples and explanations. I wish Adobe would provide updates for DW CS5.5 to support the latest version of jQuery Mobile. Things have moved on a bit since the old alpha3.

I know you can update the content assist for the JS stuff - but as to the data-* stuff and the inserts panel - I'm not sure. It's on my list to find out.

Ok, but I put CF tags in with Mobile and it doesnt seem to like it. Are these sites using JQM supposed to be static pages? Because a simple cfloop in this code makes the display crap out.

You can absolutely mix CF (or PHP, etc) with JQM. VIew source on your page and see if you broke HTML anywhere.

Thank you, Ray. :-) Would still be nice if DW had a 1-click auto-update. There have been lots of releases in the last few months and I'm sure there will be many more through the beta releases and working up to 1.1, 1.2, etc. And DW's understanding of jquery will need updating too.
