Gustav Update

For those who are sitting around bored wondering if I'm dead or cutting my way out of my roof yet, here is the latest projection. The pink dot is Lafayette, but I did it by hand and so it may not be 100% precise.

We have some thunder now, and mild winds, but in general it has been pretty nice all day. I went with a friend to get sand bangs. Not that there is any real flooding concern, but we have a pool in the back yard that is a bit raised, and it tends to flood by the back doors when we get rain. So with that in mind, we placed sand bags by them all.

I'll blog again tomorrow to let folks know what's going on. If I lose power, I'll probably switch to Twitter (assuming the cell towers don't fall again like they did for Rita).

I am hoping you and everyone down there stay safe and healthy.
Keep you and your family safe Ray!
Good Luck Ray!
My parents decided to make their way to Houston to get out of harms way, they are from Morgan City, which is a lot closer to the gulf in the storms way...

I really like this interactive map:

Thanks for the update, Ray. Glad you and the family are safe, and hope it stays quiet.
thanks for keeping us posted Ray - there are alot of evacuees up here in Birmingham tonight, plenty more are welcome!
Hope you and the family can manage to stay high & dry ... :)
OK, dumb question here. Why do you have a pool in the backyard that's a bit raised? :)
Stay safe and don't do anything foolish . . . praying for y'all.
@Will: I think the idea is that rain water won't stream into the pool. Note when I say raised it's like maybe 1-2 inches total, but it's enough. ;)

The wind is rising, but so far it's retty calm. If this turns out to be a big deal over nothing, I definitely won't mind.
Good luck Ray! I hope you and your family stay safe.
@Ray, yes Ray it would be great if the category keeps dropping. As with everyone else in this thread I wish you and yours all the very best.
I hope all be Ok, it´s loosing power Gustav

Good Luck Raymond
I'll be watching for you on TV giving a survivors report. But seriously, hope you make it through. oh, and reason number 300 Vegas is better. No potential Hurricanes. Reasons 1 through 299 are Hofbrau Haus, of course.
All is well. We have no power, but I'm at a friends house with the family, enjoying the AC, and catching up on email. We had minor damage, but I'll post more details later.
